Anyone have any guess as to the ID of this maple?

Prattville, AL(Zone 8b)

does it look familiar to any you know of? Ive been scanning the 4th edition vertrees Japanese Maples book but I can't find a picture that closely matches.

sorry no help here - where did you come by it?

Prattville, AL(Zone 8b)

i visited a local nursery yesterday and he had many grafts. this one was only tagged with #9 and 3-22-10. the date it was put into its pot. its very lovely specimen.
I've asked several times and he says he has it written down in a book at home but he forgot to look.
At this point i feel like a pest asking him repeatedly.

i just called again and he said 2 or 3 weeks. i hate having an unnamed cultivar and i only bought it because he assured me he had the name written down. ugh.

return it ... maybe that would get him to look up the name...strange that he would not know.

Looks like an Acer Palmatum Sangokaku or Coral Bark maple

some maples look quite different at different times of the season. try taking a picture at mid-season and early Spring and compare them with your plant

i called back this morning and was told it was called "Coral Morn"
