musa basjoo fruiting.

Sumter, SC

I gave my sister in law a small potted musa basjoo 3 years ago, and it's already blooming/fruiting for her. My musa's are taller, but they don't receive full sun from dusk til dawn as does her's. Go Valerie!

Gorgeous! And I recently found out that Musa blooms are edible. Go figure!

Cool - will tell my sister in law.

Wow! I love the colors! I keep hoping my super dwarf cavendish will bloom!

My sister in law just contacted me and she found the name tag on this banana. It's an Orinoco! Apparently, the musa basjoo I gave her died. The fruit and flower does look like an Orinoco. Looking forward to a taste test. I planted an orinoco several years ago, but it died.

My sister in law is going to let me did up a small section of her Orinoco banana next spring. Mine was probably killed by ground voles a few years ago. They're definitely fully cold hardy here in the SC midlands. Will plant mine in a large garbage container to protect from voles.
