Norther New England - Viburnums and Dianthus Desmond

Albany, ME(Zone 4b)

We have quite a few vibirnum bushes of different varieties (all with a scent). This year none of them bloomed!!!! Might it have been the very hot spell in March started the buds too soon?

Also, all my dianthus Desmond, all planted last year, died. The only survivor (barely) was one planted in 2010. All my dianthus Inchmery and Fire Storm survived.

I'd be interested to know how northern new england gardners fared with these plants this year.

I don't have any viburnums......my Arctic Fire dianthus did well.....some I had planted on the south side of the garage didn't make it, but I'm not sure of the variety...I know some are annuals & only survive if there's a decent snow cover.....

I'm a lot farther south than you but my Dianthus didn't do well this year
