Not sure what it is called. Rusty color on leaves. This only happens on my Chicago Flair plants. Just lost another one. It was huge and beautiful, then, this happened. Never has happened to another plant. What is the cause?
Rust?
Hard to tell without a picture. Did you change anything recently (mix, water, fertilizer, temperature, lights etc.)?
No, nothing changed.. No pictures... should have taken one. Looks like rust on the outer edge of the leaves. Starts outside, then one by one, takes over. Then dies. I just want to trash it fast when it gets bad. Just on the Chicago Flair. It always grows great for me, then later, this happens. From perfect to dead. :(
Sally,
Does anything on this page look like it?

Very useful resource, Lynn. Thanks for sharing.
Earle
No, none of the pictures look like this. Wish I had a picture. It look like rust, orangey brown on the edges. Oldest leaves, and moves in to the young leaves. I have looked everywhere. I love Chicago Flair, but I can't get another! Keeps happening.
Your welcome Earle.
Sally,I will keep thinking. It sounds like fertilizer or salt burn.

Also go here and look at rust fungus. It would be unusual on an African Violet, but possible, especially if you garden outdoors.

No, it was just on the edges, very neat line. Then gets worse. but that is the color.
Very useful links, Lynn! :)
Well, I would think that rust is rather unlikely. I would assume that more than one variety would be attacked if it had been rust or some other fungal disease.
This sounds more like some cultural/environmental issue but again: These are all just guesses without actually being able to see the plant...
For some reason, I have the strange feeling that the culprit could be fertilizer buildup...
Sally,
Sometimes a variegated violet will get rusty spots from cool drafts, cool water or touching the leaves. If it is fertilizer salt it will wash off with a soft cloth....just a way to test it.
Thanks.
