It's amazing what a bit of cooperation can achieve. There's quite a few associations that ants have with other organisms that are mutually beneficial. Of course the ant/aphid or mealy bug associations are a couple that aren't to our advantage.

Allot of Orchids do this as well and never get mad when I have ants on my Orchids !

Orchid flower buds secrete a sticky substance that is ment to attracted ants which will them protect the buds but ants also carry the scale bugs around from plant to plant so i keep ants away from my orchid house.
