I know tulips are not the most reliably long lived bulbs, but perhaps there are some white or pink ones that will last for many years???

longest lived white, also pink tulips
Darwin hybrid tulips are known to come back most dependably. try pink impression or white impression.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/109430/ these worked well for me in zone 7
actually i just found a list of them that perennialize in zone 5 lol.
I have a clump of Pink Impression that has bloomed reliably for 20 years, when the deer didn't eat the buds. The flower size has diminished somewhat, so this year I am finally going to dig and divide and plant them inside the new 8 foot deer fence. I haven't seen White Impression, and can't find it available commercially. There are several additional colors in the Impression series, try vanengelen.com for their selection.
