Check out this Endless Summer ...........I planted it a year ago....it was small then, about 18"......it was very carefully planted, didn't bloom, but seemed healthy....then last July we had a storm and a tree limb fell on it squishing it....so, I cut it to the ground, and it started to come back a little.....We are in zone 5a, and so for winter, it was covered with pine straw about 1-2" deep. I uncovered it in the last part of March, and it looked like it started to come back....we had 2 nights of light frost....and look now! What is the black on the leaves......my patience is about at an end....this thing has been babied for a year....It is planted by my shed that gets morning sun until about 1 p.m., then shade.....the hostas planted next to it do beautifully......

What is wrong with this Endless Summer Hydrangea???

Could be frost damage--since you had it covered up all winter it's not really used to cold temperatures, so exposing it to frost probably damaged some of the leaves. Shouldn't be any long-term harm though, and new leaves/new growth that emerge from here on ought to be just fine (as long as you don't get more frost...if you know there are some frosty nights coming you might cover it again temporarily.
Thanks.....I wasn't sure if it was frost, but sounds like it could be.......this hydrangea has been through alot! I'll hang on and see what the new foliage looks like.

Update:
The hydrangea is coming back and is growing well....I don't expect anything great this year, but so far, it is doing well.
I gave it a shovel full of my composted manure, and it loved that!

My OWN doggone Endless Summer Hydrangea. The thing was planted last year, it looked beautiful this Spring, then the hot sun came and it got really unhappy. Leaves mottled with some kind of fungus, etc. I was on a mission to find an evergreen replacement, was SO HAPPY to be able to create a new look in that corner...then, looked at it a couple of days ago. Doggone it.
It has sprouted two huge limbs! And there are new leaves all over...
So, guess it heard me.
