Help! Black screen on Laptop but it won't shut off

Fired up my HP Laptop ( bought new in Nov) this morning and everything was fine until I moved the mouse to the Firefox/Mozilla icon. Screen turned black but all the lights show the computer is still running.

Any suggestions on how I can get this thing to power down?
