I can offer the seeds of Saxifraga nipponica Makino for three.
Is there anyone who want to have?

Hello Tomtom,

I would like to grow this plant. Do you know if it's hardy in zone 6?

Kind regards,

Jonna

Hi Jonna,

This native plant grows in zones 8 and 9 in Japan.
If you want to grow it in spite of this hard fact , please let me know.
I'll be willing to send you the seeds.

Hi Tomtom,

Thanks, but I see no way to grow them here if they are only hardy in zone 8/9.

Jonna, the current native distribution of a plant doesn't necessarily mean that the plant is only hardy in those climatic zones. If other saxifrages in Section Irregulares are hardy for you (e.g. Saxifraga stolonifera, S. fortunei, etc.), then it is likely that S. nipponica and cultivars will be hardy for you also.

Malcolm MacGregor (Saxifrages) describes S. nipponica as "one of the more straightforward species in the garden, with the evergreen leaves being able to cope with frosts. It is also able to survive drier and more sunny positions than most of the other species." I hope that's helpful.

Thank you altagardener. I see several reports that both S. stolonifera as S. fortunei are hardy in my zone.

Tomtom, may I ask you for some seeds to try it out? Will keep them the first winter in my greenhouse to give them a fair chance.
And please let me know what I can send you in return.

Ok, I'll send you the seeds as soon as possible.
I don't want anything for this.
And your addresses are obtained from the Address Exchange.

Best luck !
