Grape trellis orientation?

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

We live on a south-facing slope with nice full sun in the garden area. Would it be better to orient a grape trellis east to west, or north to south?

Thanks!

I have no clue...never had a grape vine.....

I'm waiting for someone to answer this as I need to put up a grape trellis!

Good question....wonder if it's exactly how you plan garden rows????

I'm just thinking, if I orient them east-west, one side of the trellis will get all the sun, which may not necessarily be a bad thing. But the vines will probably orient toward the south side, whereas if I put them north-south, the growth will probably be more even. Can't decide whether it really makes a difference.

The only thing I see on about every grape growing site is plant them in full sun, so I would do them north south, meaning open part of trellis facing east west

I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to use 16ft x 54 inch high cattle panels - will be easy to put up.

I have a grape trellis and the vine is planted on the west side and grows to the east - this is just the way i planted it there was no thought behind it all

I would orient it E-W so it gets maximum sun from the south.
