Every year, (especially in Spring) my yard is full of these tall, thin, dark leaved, onion smelling grass plants if you dig up looks like a small onion bulb. When you mow over them they smell badly of onions and are called "onion grass" here. I live in New York, US and am wondering is this a type of grass, flower, or wild onion? I cant find any info on it .

"Onion Grass"
Looks like wild onion - Allium validum or A. canadense

I confused now, while searching I am seeing wild garlic also show up and read the two species look alike. How do I distinguish what I have?
Doesn't garlic have flatter blades while onion has round blades? Also the smell should be a good indicator.
