Can someone help me figure this out?

For some reason I can't seem to upload photo's from my camera to my laptop anymore. I'm really technically challanged so I hope someone can offer me a suggestion to fix this problem.

I've had a Macbook Pro laptop, and a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS camera for a couple of years now and it seems I've somehow messed up the settings or something ... at least I'm pretty sure I caused the problem. I bought a new USB cable, thinking that might be the culprit but still no luck so I realized that wasn't the problem.

The normal steps I do is plug the USB cable from the camera to the laptop and the "Image Capture" window opens, then I click on "Import All" and all of my photo's will upload.

For about a week now the Image Capture window doesn't open and when I manually open it, on the left side the list of devices is empty! The only thing there before was the Canon camera and I think I must have somehow deleted it when I was fooling around with settings or something and now I can't figure out how to get it back there. It won't let me click in the box to add anything so I'm hoping someone can give me some tips. I really appreciate any help you can offer. I'm concerned that this is going to be a difficult process ... I did download the camera user's guide but haven't had time to read through it yet so if this problem sounds familiar to anyone I'd be very appreciative of tips you might have to correct it.
