LOL, you switched the shot around Kell! It's my party because I am finally feeling better today after a bad bout of the flu, off to Cambria on Sunday to celebrate Anniversary.
Hope you have a party week starting today and a healthy and happy rest of the year!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I did trick you! LOL HB Sue! It is Your Party! How cool am I?

Lucky you going to Cambria. I loved it there. We are off to Swan Oyster Depot for lunch. Start of my party.

PS Did you have the GI distress one? That is a notovirus and so bad. I thought I was dying.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

yes, you are cool!
Great day to get away for lunch in the City, I just looked it up and put in on my list of places to try next time we're down! Reviews sound yummy!

My flu was the achy body and bad cough kind, all the classic symptoms, my lungs and ribs hurt from coughing so hard, I am on the mend though, the sunshine and relaxing will be great.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The bad part of this is that I have had -
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you
going round and round in my mind since I found this flower the other day. I am about to SCREAM!

This is our first time at Swans but friends go and so love it. (Pirl think lobster and crab) So fresh! I am so hoping they have live uni for me. Not having my sushi party till my kid gets home from Hawaii. After Swans we are going to Chantal Guillon Macarons for macarons and tea to take home. Only time I could get Tom to stop for such things in SF. LOL. I am so sly. He can't say NO to me today, I hope. I have not told him yet. . http://chantalguillon.myshopify.com/pages/about-us

Glad you feel better! If I catch that one I will be so unhappy.

PS there is a A+ fish place in Cambria that I so wanted to try. But they had a line out the door. I wonder if Feb is easier to get in. If I can think of the name I will tell you. It is at Moonstone Beach.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Did I hear someone mention my name?

Enjoy your special day, Kell, and chow down!

Sue - happy anniversary to you & Brad. Enjoy your lunch.

Kell - if you see any good ones at Swan Island that are similar to this one in color please let me know. I just love this personal shopping service!

Hi Pirl. We have confused you. It is Miss Sue's birthday.... and mine! Twins!

I went for lunch at Swan Oyster Depot for SEAFOOD not Swans for daylilies.

Just got back! They did have live sea urchin! Man took a long time cleaning it but still had shell.

Sue, I would not rush to go! Amazingly busy, when we left line out the door and down the street. Didn't realize how dirty til I looked at my photos. So friendly and we did have a great time.

The macarons were toooooooooooo sweet.

As we paid our bill at Swans the guy said ADMIRABLE! LOL We ate it all.

I am off for a nap before we go for dinner. Just put me in a wheelbarrow and roll me out.

Pirl, your lobster roll looked better than anything I had though the Dungeness crab cocktail was excellent.

PS Won't even upload 1 photo much less 5! Why did I not know this feature would suck?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Okay, I stand corrected...happy birthday to Sue and Kell!

I thought you meant Swan Island Dahlias! How funny!

We'll be off for more Maine lobster rolls soon and I'll take photos.

Were the macaroons too sweet to eat?

I hope you love your dinner.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Thanks pirl!

Kell, could the Cambria seafood spot be Manta Rey Restaurant or Sea Chest Restaurant & Oyster Bar?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Re Swans, you think in garden talk, Pirl! LOL So is it macarons or macaroons? Maybe the fancy ones are macarons! LOL. Yes, way too sweet. And since the store specializes in them you would think they would be fantastic. Oh well, my birthday present to myself sucked. I bought tea there too, not to my taste.

Gee Sue, it could be Sea Chest Restaurant & Oyster Bar. I am not sure now. You know the motel with the succulent garden in front, it is maybe 2 blocks North from there on a corner. OK I just did google maps and I am almost 100% sure it is Sea Chest Restaurant & Oyster Bar. Another place in town we just loved so much was http://www.blackcatbistro.com/ . They had an abalone appetizer that was excellent. They either own or somehow are affiliated with the abalone farm in the next town over. The food was excellent and I think it was a romantic place too. Maybe not, LOL. http://www.yelp.com/biz/black-cat-bistro-cambria

I plead guilty. In fact I saw a close relationship in color with the dahlia and the lobster roll!

So you got me to look up macaroons and this is what I found - too much information but interesting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaroon

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder if they are the same type of cookie. These are nothing like the coconut or almond paste flavored cookies. Maybe they are the French kind for they are spelled Macaron. http://chantalguillon.myshopify.com/pages/about-us

They sure are colored pretty!

I have heard of the Black Cat Bistro. Food sounds good. Some of the yelp reviews crack me up!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Here's a link on Parisian Macarons: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2010/04/i-love-macarons-french-recipe/

Coloring seems to be a big deal with macarons.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sue, I had not read those reviews, they are funny! Sounds like it is romantic also, you should go for your anniversary!

Pirl, now we know how to make our very own macarons with 1 o! LOL And your link brought me to this link http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2005/07/laduree/ So popular! The great colors are what called my name.

My first dalliance with a macaron was last year when my son brought me some from Paris. He treated them like gold, hard to get and costly. As I recall, I didn't like them then either but the circumstance of the gift made them being "special" to be ingrained on my mind.

Then the day before my birthday I was reading a local food blog that had a great pic of macarons. Scroll down http://chezpim.com/

This blog led me to a site of a farm that supplies a restaurant we go to. And there was a class on making macarons. http://www.growbetterveggies.com/growbetterveggies/2011/04/in-the-kitchen-with-chez-pim-macarons-madness.html

Then a few hours later, I saw a photo of macarons in a box labeled Chantal Guillon on Flick. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hellochristine/6288316104/in/photostream/ Was not the universe that day screaming MACARONS at me?

So I googled Chantal Guillon having being enamored with the bright colors and fun circular shape of these cookies all day long. Amazingly, the macaron store, Chantal Guillon was only 5 minutes from where I was having lunch the next day in San Francisco. Obvious to me, fate wanted me to have my own box of macarons! And so it was.

As is true with most things in life, anticipation is so much better than the reality of it.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You have gone Macaron Mad! Loved the links and the thought of creamy caramel at 10:28 AM (with snow coming down) is wonderful and beats any breakfast I can think of...except a Lobster Benny, of course. It would be a fine dessert for breakfast!

Anticipation is the best part of so many things. Even the word "anticipation" reminds me of ketchup and Carly Simon. Had to ditch the last bottle of it when it turned into a teenager in the refrigerator!

Sunday morning here Pirl, make me that for breakfast!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I just made our reservations for Cape Cod this June and September. I'll meet you there and we can go to breakfast together!

The lobster and Swiss omelet is also delicious.

What a fun thought! That looks so good. I still have not had breakfast. Poor me. Tom is still asleep. Almost 9 here.

Ahhhh, thanks sooo much pirl! We had a nice 3 day get-away with friends, it's going to take me a few days to recover, we ate a lot of good food and drank a lot of good wine! ;-)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Glad you had a good time. Isn't it almost a year since you moved into your new home? Time does fly!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

March 27 will be a year, yes time flies!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow! I remember when you were looking and then the long wait. So glad your dreams came true.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I know! A nine month agonizing wait from start to finish and now we have been in the house longer than that.
