Spring Round Up, Anyone?

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi everyone,
I've talked to DH about hosting a RU again and he is okay with it as long as it's not the first weekend in March, because he already booked that date for the BS of A. So any time after that weekend will work for us. DH thinks we should have the RU out by GMa Oak (see photo).
If anyone else would like to find a more central location that's okay too, but if no one else is interested in hosting the event, or finding a more centralized place to have the RU, we'll be happy to have it here. : - )
I welcome discussion on this topic and the first we need to decide where and at the same time, what date works for everyone else?
Speak your piece, and let us know, as we'd especially like to get the date settled as soon as we can for them nice folks who travel from out of state to attend the RU.
If you want to volunteer and help weegy and I out, be reckless and volunteer. Who knows you might have some fun! : - )
The discussion is open, and the date will be chosen by consensus.
Thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest in having the RU here again. Let's make it happen! : - )

Wherever it is, I'll try to be there. I have a 2 baby showers in March, 1 is for my daughter. I'll handle the food thread for you SW and will be in contact with you.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks weegy, you are always a comfort and support. : - )
Does anyone want to take on the plant trade (and other gardening items) thread?
If so let me know and I'll be happy to help you get it started if you need it.
Still waiting to hear from y'all. Need to find out dates that work, or if you want to do this RU elsewhere?
I'm okay with April and it will folks more time to plan, perhaps? Maybe we should start by excluding dates?
LMK, okay.
Thanks.
WIB~

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You're welcome SW. The only thing I have planned in April is Emma's 3rd birthday party.

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm so there Jules and will come early to set up. Just say the time and date. So far we have nothing on our calendar for March or April.
Sylvia

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

So glad I found this thread, don't want to miss out on a RU unless absolutely necessary. Usually our time is our own, but now with DH seeing an oncologist this coming Tuesday we just play it by ear.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Samigal, I'm sorry to hear about your DH. Please keep us posted and I'll be keeping him in my prayers.
I'd like to hear from some others about good dates.
Weegy, you didn't say if Emma's party would conflict with any of the Saturdays in April. Please wish her a Happy 3rd B.day from me. My goodness has it been 3 years already?
Thanks for helping out, dillansnana. I was hoping to hear from you.
Hope to hear from more members, too.
Got to go enjoy the sunny day.
WIB,
SW

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Pegi, I hope your appointment with DH goes well tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.
Yes, SW Emma is going to be 3 on April 16th. Her party will either be Saturday the 15th or Sunday the 16th of April. Any other weekend is open. March 10th and 24th are booked.
Hope we can make it work for everyone.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Hey, sorry I didn't see this new thread but I am up for any weekend in April or March.

Samurai, how did it go with DH's Dr ? Where is the cancer? We have certainly been there and will keep you both in prayer.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Good news and bad news, where does it end. He was cancer free (prostate cancer) for 5 years then it came back with a vengence. Well, we knew the cancer has spread to his bones and the Lupron shots were helping, but now the shots have stopped working so is on another med and he says he is feeling better. The only thing is these treatments work for just so long then have to try something else. Will see the oncologist the end of April and with some good news I hope. He has appointment with our regular doctor on March 1st and we will see how other parts of body are doing. LOL Several other options oncologist talked about and no one I know has that kind of money. That is a long ways down the line, so one day at a time. BTW DH did ask when the RU was going to be so sounds like he is looking forward to it. Jules, you are a jewel for having RU 3 times in a row. I now you have health issues too and hope this doesn't add any more to your plate. You and hubby are so special.

Crossville, TN

When you settle on a date let me know and I will list it in the RU Thread. I might even be able to attend! Jo

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

hi everyone, sorry I fell off the face of the earth. Firth, for some reason the thread stopped being watched. Don't know what happened but several threads went the same way. Second, we've all been so sick. So what's up? Has a date been set? How is the food usually set up? Do we BBQ or due sandswiches? Just a thought...how about an old fashioned box lunch? Someone draws names and assigned each of us a secret buddy, then we each post a like/dislike post. We each decorate a box and fill it with a lucnh our buddy would love. Of coarse we would need nibblers like fruit/veggie tray that I would love to bring one. I could also bring a case or two of water. Just let me know. No matter whats decided it's going to be so much fun and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Would it be ok to bring my mom and granddaughter with me if they would like to come? Ok, now that I'm feeling better, someone give me something to do......Robyn

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Hey Robin, wonder where you and everyone went. When a thread gets too long and someone starts a fresh one, the connection/link gets broken and new entries do not show up on your 'watch' list. I forget lots of time to back back to the original Forum page to see if there are new threads.

As to the RU, you can get an idea of sign ups and such by going to page 2 of the CA Gardener's Forum, down to about March 29 and you will see last year's RU entries. Since I have been going it has been potluck. Your box lunch buddy idea sounds fun, but so many people make changes about coming or not coming at the last minute, it might be hard to manage. I see Weegy has said she would handle the Food thread, but maybe you could make your CA member connections again and send them the info about the date and such when that gets solidified. The food has always been plentiful and wonderful and we have been able to feed members and their families even when they are last minute additions. For those of us who like to grow food, it is a little early to bring anything from our gardens, but maybe my broccoli or Brussels sprouts will be ready!?

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

I sent out a bunch of dmails yesterday using the trade lists this time. I'll check the thread you suggessted. This is going to be so much fun. I haven't grown any of my own food yet but can buy a great party sandwich when I put my mind to it. LOL. I'm hoping to have some plants to bring. Some of my WSing went wild and I have only so much space to plant (at least for now).

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

What is WSing? Veggies can be grown in containers on patios, grass, etc. too. Here is a link to a great "city farm"/homestead in the CITY of Pasadena and they grow 6000 LBS (inc eggs, etc) of food a year on 1/10th of an acre. They are an inspiration of possibilities if one is willing to work full time at it all.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

Winter Sowing. I planted alot of flowers that way. I am going to be growing veggies in containers. Between the dog in the back yard and the planting bed right next to the road in front, I decided the only way the veggies would have a chance was in containers in the middle. I'm amazed at how some people can take urban gardening to the most. There's an article in the Martha Stewert Living magazine that just came out. I was blown away.

Crossville, TN

I can't swear that I could come, but I am going to make a suggestion that we have the RU the week end after Easter....that makes it Sat. April 14th. Southwest has a very good price for flying at that time.....but I will have to wait and see if this passes muster. Jo

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

works for me.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

me too

Palm Desert, CA(Zone 11)

Hi! I am new here, and would LOVE a get-together with other gardeners. Any date is good for me, as long as I have time to plan ahead. I grow cacti and succulents mostly, but am "branching out" (pun intended) to other plants this year. I have many plants and seeds to trade. Thanks for the invite, Robyn!

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the invite Robyn. I'm a bit farther away in San Luis Obispo County but I might be able to make it in April.
Do you guys do a plant trade there or maybe set up trades here on DG ahead of time for delivery at the RU?

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm so excited to see people likeing this. I have a question SW. Does a person have to be a subscribed member to come to a round up?

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

First, Jo, book it! The Date is Now Officially set for the RU for April 14th. I didn't hear any one say they couldn't do it that date. So, book your flight, Jo!
No you do not have to be subscribed member to join us at the RU. QG wasn't for her first, but later decided to join. We don't expect for everyone to be a member, just to have a friendly attitude and an interest in gardening. Because of our location, we encourage you to bring your SO, kids, parents, and friends. : - )
Special knowledge or expertise people choose to share is always a boon. : - )
Secondly, we do need to start a thread for the RU, about who will bring what to the RU Potluck.
I did like the box lunch idea, and that might work for some other time. : - )
I'm sure that sandwich won't go uneaten.
If someone would start a thread on plant/seed trades, that would be nice too.
I'm out of town, spending some time with family, and trying to recuperate from the recent illness referred to above.
So I'm not as able to check in as often as I'd like. : - (
I am so looking forward to meeting everyone, and hope to be in touch more often. : - )
Hope that covers everything for now.
Jo, thank you for listing us in the RU Forum, I greatly appreciate your help.
Weegy and Momr, thanks for helping out too. : - )
Sami, tell your DH, that I'm looking forward to seeing him at the RU. We all need something to look forward to. : - ) You remain as always in my prayers. : - )

I have a problem....Amy will be home soon...Ship coming in the end of the month. I emailed her to see if she could take to to the RU on the 14th and she is already signed up for some kind of run on that date...most of her squadron is to do this.

SOOOO...will anyone be coming from San Diego that I can ride with? Jo

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Don't know if my daughter is planning Emma's birthday party for the 14th or 15th but will let you know SW.
So glad to see so many new people piping up here!
Sure hope I can make it and....I might just be bringing Emma and mom of course. I'll start the food thread for you SW! I'll do that this evening when there are no 'little' interruptions here...

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Glad I came on line tonight and discovered you have set up date for April 14th. All I have to share is some naked lady bulbs that neighbor was going to throw out. Looking forward to coming for the RU. DH seems to be doing OK, just does take too many naps........but he always did nap a lot. Still won't have any news until after March 1st, but that would only be by our regular doctor.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm keeping you both in my prayers

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

thank you monkeymomr. Prayers are the best gift of all. He enjoyed the last 2 times Singing Wolf had the RU. and I love it there. Will stay tuned................

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 9a)

I got a large branch of a Tulip magnolia from a neighbor and was able to cut it into 4 pieces, I'm hoping they all root so I can bring a couple of those with me. Her tree is incredible.

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Peggy

Prayers being said for your DH. Hope to see you both in April.
With love,
Sylvia

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Yay, glad I came onboard today to see the date. Peggy, my DH is looking forward to talking with yours (not that he is much of a talker, lol). He has enjoyed 'schmoosing' with him since the first RU that cold day in Mar 3 years ago when they huddled on the screened porch in Bonsall.

SW is right, you do not need to be a member. However, it is more difficult for non members to even know about it as they cannot access the California Forum, or the RU Forum. I do not know how I learned of it that first time, but remember I communicated with Kathleen via D-mail. After the RU I wanted to be able to continue to communicate with those I met (even if I could not remember their names), so I joined.

Jo, will her run be at the Navy base? Trying to figure where you need a pick up from.

Crossville, TN

Quiltygirl...if you can get me picked up....I promise....I will quit calling you GUILTYgirl!!!

I don't know where the run is....I think it's called a "mud run"??? She will be home the last of this week....YIPEE....so I will ask her. I can stay at her house if that is closer for someone. Jo

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Is it a San Diego address (even then that is vast) or another community name?

In looking to see where the San Diego Mud Run is, I see there are A LOT of them around the country. I see there is one in East County, Lakeside on that day: http://gladiatorrocknrun.com but there are a lot of them showing up when I google San Diego Mud Run. There are some near here in March and April too.

Crossville, TN

She lives on Magellan St, SD 92154....not too far from Imperial Beach where she used to live. Jo

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

We are looking forward to April 14th and hope we have a very nice day. If we can keep some of the weather we have had most of the winter it will be perfect.

Linda, yep I think DH is looking forward to 'schmoosing' with your DH. Looking forward to seeing all of you, God willing.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Jo - Wow, she couldn't get much further south, huh? Can you find out where the 'Run' is? I am trying to think of any DG'rs that would be nearby to pick up.

Crossville, TN

I'll check it out in a few days....Jo

Crossville, TN

The run is in Barona by the Casino...Does that help any?? Jo

Prescott, AZ(Zone 7b)

I'd love to attend, and I have lots of great plants I could trade you guys but . . . where is the round-up going to be?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Hi Domehomedee, round-up is in Menifee - Singing Wolf and hubby are our gracious hosts. Awesome farm! SW will be giving all instructions later on. Hope we see you there.
