I spent all summer last year relocating fire ants, because everything that I tried just made them move to another spot. I am interested in trying Spinosad. My main concern is does it harm other insects. My daughter has a butterfly garden and I don't want to do anything that will harm butterflies. Also curious if any one has actually had any luck with using it.
Spinosad
Spinosad will harm caterpillars, so if the fire ants are near the butterfly garden I wouldn't use it if there's any chance there are caterpillars around. It can also be harmful to bees when wet (but much less so when dry), and other than that it doesn't hurt most other beneficial insects. It is supposed to work against fire ants, but I don't have those here so all I can tell you is I've found it to be effective against other types of ants.
