Paliavana plumeroides

Montgomery, AL

Has anyone grown this guy and know what it likes? All I know is that it's a shrubby plant from Brazil. The first several seedlings I had all died after I removed them from terrarium conditions. These are my final three and I want them to live! What should I do?

This is one of the plants where nobody really seems to know what they like...

It's not very widely cultivated but it's a pretty cool looking plant.

The easiest way would be to ask on gphiles. Chances are that somebody there knows what to do...

Okay, quick research:

I don't know if you have a flickr account but Jon Lindstrom has this picture of P. plumerioides in hs stream:

Seems like he knows how to, at least, keep the plants alive. He's a professor of horticulture at the University Of Arkansas and grows, among many other plants, some AWESOME Gesneriads!!!

Other than that, this is the only other bit of information that I was able to find. It's from Alan LaVergne's "Sinningia And Friends"-website:

I hope that helps!

Olaf, you are awesome, as usual. I had pulled the 3 remaining little seelings from their pots to find that the roots systems were terribly inadequate. Diane Best, from another forum, advised me to add more perlite for drainage, move to a sunny disposition, and maintain humidty. I'll add some rocks to the bottom of the pot, like Mauro says to do in your link (substratum 7). I hope the poor babies make it. Thanks, Jamie

Thanks, Jamie!

I'm just doing what geeks do best... LOL

If anyone, Diane Best knows how to grow those "odd ones". She's an extremely talented grower and a very nice person! :)

I keep my fingers crossed for you, my friend! :)
