60 Minute Gardening Seminars
The Master Gardener Association of Western Wayne Country is presenting a series of 4 seminars for the gardening public. The programs are designed to inform the public about popular gardening subjects. They will be taught by Master Gardeners who specialize in the areas that they will teach.
The classes will be held at the Wayne County Extension Office at 5454 Venoy) 1/4 mile north of Van Born) from 7-8 p.m. Don’t let the title fool you there will be plenty of time for Q&A at the classes. The cost of the classes are $10 each or all 4 at $30 if you register in advance.
The schedule is as follows:

February 7, 2012, All About Herbs learn how to choose plant and harvest herbs for culinary and other uses. Taught by Pat Mann herb specialist from the Greenfield Village Herb Associates.

February 14, 2012 Composting/ Hoop Houses
Compost is known as “Black Gold” to gardeners. Learn the basics of backyard composting. Taught by Advanced Master Gardener and community garden expert Bruce Forrest. You’ll learn about what should and shouldn’t be composted. You’ll learn about the different types of compost containers. As a bonus to this session you will hear about how to build a hoop house to extend your growing season

February 21, 2012 Urban Chicken Farming, Taught by Vince urban chicken farmer. Get fresh eggs from your own backyard. Local ordinances will be discussed as well as coop design and construction. Get on board the latest trend in urban agriculture.

February 28, 2012 Square Foot/High Yield Gardening
Grow vegetables in a bale of straw. Learn how to grow lots of vegetables in a very small space. You don’t need a large area in order to produce fresh veggies. Learn techniques, fertilization and space saving tips. Taught by Paul Rodman, Advanced Master Gardener, and Garden Writer.
