Looking for Spigelia marilandica - Indian Spring Seeds

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I stumbled on this plant while looking for seeds for herbs. Every site I visited had this plant or seeds as out of stock.

If anyone has seeds to trade, please let me know.

Thanks

That's very very pretty, Rose.

I know! And now I'm on the hunt for it. Have a wonderful holiday.

Well it's a hummingbird magnet and a native to boot. I'm on board! I'll start digging too. Merry Christmas dear. :)

Merry Christmas to you as well!

Hi! I've been looking for this plant for years - hopefully, someone will want to do a trade with me.

All these vendors on DG supposed to have the plant: http://davesgarden.com/products/ps/go/48891/

Plus available commercially from a few different sources:

No seeds, tho'.

Keep us posted.

p.s. don't buy native wildflowers from any source you can't verify - don't want to support anyone who is wild collecting...

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I dmailed the DG'ers that offered it on their trade lists, but never heard back from them.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I would rather try seeds but I might have to buy the plant if I can't find any.

Just curious, why should we stay away from wild collectors?

Happy New Year!

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Rose, if plants and seeds are collected from the wild, they tend to disappear from over-harvests.

KayJones, I understand.

Someone is selling these plants on ebay. I have them in my garden but I have never seen them re-seed. They are slow growers, but they are beauties.

SPIGELIA marilandica Size 4" pot - $15.00

Holy Cow! That's too rich for MY wallet! $15.00 is just part of the cost - you have to add shipping costs.

Yikes!

On ebay, Clampams General Store is the seller with a 99,8% positive feedback rating.

Listed as Indian Pinks. three plants for $11.99 and $6.50 for postage plus free shipping for any additional plants you may buy.

I ordered other plants from this seller, a year ago and I was happy with them,
Jack-in-a-pulpit and ostrich ferns.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I have found a couple of independent sources - small native nurseries that sell plants for $6 - $8 each.

Let me know if you are interested. I haven't seen a seed source.

Enjoy the weekend.
