Question about an older English helmet

I have an Equestrian brand velvet english helmet, (no chin strap), that I bought in 1982. I'm trying to decide what to do with it (sell or give away) and don't know if it is now just for decoration. I'm thinking the newer ones have much more padding than this one does.
