Erratic Laptop Cursor

My new Dell laptop touchpad cursor often jumps erratically around the screen. I find this extremely frustrating. This seems to be an issue shared by many. What I find most frustrating is that no one seems to able to provide a "real" solution to this problem. It's a joke to contact customer support. My last laptop did the same. People get around it by disabling the touchpad and using a Mouse. That defeats the purpose of the touchpad. I've tried everything. Dell suggested to take out the battery and then reinstall it. That doesn't work either. Anyone else out there have this problem ? Anyone have a solution that works? Anyone know what causes it ?
