Improved Meyer Lemon Tree

Honolulu, HI

Does anyone out there know when I can expect my meyer lemon trees to flower and fruit? I bought them at Home Depot in March 2010 and they were about l.5 feet in height. One is in a large ceramic pot, tree now about three feet tall. The second is in the ground, about 3 feet tall also. I found a large green caterpillar twice on the first one with some curling of the middle leaves but the rest of leaves look okay. No flowers yet. What I have read says people have harvested lemons even when the tree is small and in a pot. How much longer and do I need to do something?

My daughters tree had small fruit set on it when they bought it....it was about 3 ft tall. I think I had fruit the year after I planted my tree. It flowers mainly in the spring but will put out a few blooms at any time if we have a huge rain. Fruiting in fall and winter. A bit of 10 30 10 fertiliser should help around flowering time.

Stellamarina; thanks for sharing. maybe it is time to give some fertilizer and see what happens in the spring!

It depends whether the tree is grafted to dwarf, semi-dwarf, or standard rootstock.

Thanks for the websites. I did not think of it being a graft and how it would affect growth and fruiting. I will ask Home Depot about that and where their source is.
