My sister wants two small evergreens to flank her front door. She wants them to stay narrow and not ever get more than 6 feet tall (or maybe shorter). Waunakee, WI Any suggestions?
Recommendation on a conifer
She would have to check the zone but check out the blackdragon cryptomeria. It goes taller than 6 feet (8 -10 average) it grows VERY SLOWLY. It is beautiful in all seasons. Dark dark (black green) with bright green new growth. The fruit is a dark chocolate brown. You didn't say how wide.
Checked it out. Pretty. Okay in zone 5 so in a protected doorway probably okay, but according to Avant Gardens' website it grows to 20 feet tall. Kind of too much. Where did you find the smaller version?
I found a couple at Klehms that I sent to her.
Idon't think I've seen a black dragon get that big my site says 10-12 max. One of ours has been, I guess 5+ feet for a mighty long time.
Check out Skyrocket Juniper - I got two of them last year at about 18" each and they're now about 3'. I think they'll get to 9' max, but are quite narrow and pretty.
