I am back with another question.....Can you help me I.D this one also? This is from Koh Chang (Elephant Island) and the guy at our resort got his Cambodian worker to dig it out of a little cliff at the edge of his resort where they were growing wild, that was 2 rain seasons ago and it just started to show signs of growth again. I'd agree it's definitely a Licuala. Most of them have spines along the leaf stem. Some varieties of L. spinosa have very large black spines, some more moderate. They do clump but you can also get single stemmed ones.
