145mph? wind damage

Pueblo, CO(Zone 5b)

The Wet Mountain Valley, Custer county, had estimated 145 mph Winds last Saturday. There was a lot of wind damage, especially trees knocked down. My family has a couple vacation cabins up there and a concerned neighbor called and said we better go have a look. I had to park my 90 year old father and his big 4x4 and hike in due to big trees down on the road. The cabin in this picture was in the shady woods. Now it is in the middle of a big open blow-down area. One tree sliced off the end of the cabin like slicing off the end of a loaf of bread. The upturned roots of another tree lifted up the sliced off section.

I would have to say we got lucky. The other newer larger cabin was undamaged. Two huge trees were near misses. When I went inside, I was amazed that the windows were all in tact.

Good news & bad news.

You won't want for firewood for a while, but your hostas are going to be in need of some sunscreen.

Hope all are safe and you have no hassles with your insurance carrier!
