Some type of native tree.

It looks very much like a Hawthorn that I recently purchased from a local nature center. Appreciate your help to identify this one. The tree grows in a noncultivated area in the woods in my neighborhood.

I'd watch for blooming in spring. I thought hawthorn as well, when I saw the leaves, though they look a bit sparse; that could be due to less light than desired, if it's under quite a bit of shade, such as a maple tree. But it may also be that it's not the hawthorn I'm used to.

Hah, I knew I've seen it before. I purchased a young tree from a nature center locally. The tree was labeled "crataegus spathulata" or Sugar Hawthorn. Here is my little tree I planted. It will be sometime before I get it to flower.
