Am in the market for a new scanner. My old one works just fine but it's old and the old (Windows 98) computer to which it was attached has died. I think my chances of finding a driver to work it on XP are nil. And soon I'll be upgrading to another new computer anyway though it will have to work on XP in the interim.
So, I need a new scanner. I want one that will scan black and white as well as colour, one that will give me options about resolution, one that will scan text and one that will allow me image manipulation capability as good as I had. I'm not sure what was running my old scanner, but as a musician, I scanner and repaired unreadable music more than once either by drawing in missing lines of making notes legible. That is important to me. Of course, I also have about a zillion photographs that I should scan at some time ...
Anyway, around here I'm seeing mostly Epson and Canon. Acer (who made my older scanner) is no longer in the scanner business.
Of those two does anyone have feelings about any of the models? Any recommendations for other brands? And do you have any recommendations for other software that I might use that would be better than that which comes with the scanner?
I'm open to any ideas and suggestions.
Thank you.
