Variegated Asiatic Dayflower (and collecting seed question)

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

I was lucky enough to find a Variegated Asiatic Dayflower in my garden one year. I potted it and it flourished. The next year (from natural seed sowing) I found 2 new variegated plants and saved them. I am wondering how to collect seeds from this plant if I wanted to give some seeds away? How do you tell when a seed pod is ripe? I have tried opening large pods only to find watery, squishy, white seeds which I assume are not ripe since they should be hard and brown. I also quite often find brown powder inside and no seeds, mabye no pollination occurred? Here is one of my plants.
