Setting Up Wire Network Issue

My ISP is Charter. When I try to set up a wireless network, I lose connection to the internet; have to remove the router and resart my computer to gain back internet service. Does anyone know a workaround so that Charter does not dump on me? I hope I am making sense with this. I am running Vista. The router is Netgear N600 WNDR 3400.
