Do you know we have wild monkeys that live in Florida around Silver Springs? The Rhesus monkey. Several of these monkeys live wild along the length of the Silver river. Legend has it the monkeys are descendants of escapees from Tarzan films shot at Silver Springs; however the Silver Springs theme park website lists the source as a concessionaire who operated the Jungle Cruise boat ride during the 1930s. The monkeys were placed on an island in the river and they simply swam off and disappeared into the neighboring forest.
I've kayaked there several times and never have seen one, but others that met us on the river said they saw them. All I see are gators and turtles, but always looking for the monkeys. :)
There has been talk over the years to remove them since they're not native to Florida, however the Fish and Wildlife have left them alone. Just something interesting about Florida.
Thanks. Interesting Sunkissed. The tiger is by far the biggest I have ever seen and its said that they are the biggest of the Tigers...I came to within touching distance of it, and it stood I guess 1.2m tall on 4legs - impressive.
