The peony forum isn't as active as this one and maybe I could get some fairly fast answers here. I just dug an heirloom peony that's never been divided - it was originally planted on my grandpas grave in 1947. It's been growing for me 10-15 years and never divided. I get that new plants need 3-5 eyes for a new bush but besides great roots the plant has woody roots. Do I cut the wood off (it'll be hard to do) or just leave the woody part, viable roots and plant all?
Also I assume the parts of moist root, some 6-8" long that broke off (no eyes) won't grow and produce flowers if I throw them all in a hole, right?
thank you.
