Western Digital External Hard Drive

suburban K.C., MO(Zone 6a)

I have a Western Digital 160 gigabyte Hard Drive that doesn't come on anymore. I bought it in Sept. 07. I never would of guessed it would only last less than 4 years. It just doesn't power on anymore.
I had a lot of junk on there and photos, nothing real important. The photos I had on the computer I use and I've already burned on 2 dvd's. But, that stings that all that other stuff is gone. For one, I wanted to get the .html file that was the latest one of my homepage, but I fear that's lost for good. I thought maybe the AC cord had gone bad or a cat gnawed on it. I never could find where a cat severed it but it'd been chewed on so I wasn't sure about that. There's a cat here though that chews on skinny cords, she has ruined several devices, that I couldn't get an AC cord replacement for. I bought an AC cord replacement off of Ebay. I know that sounds sketchy maybe, but vendors sell new cords for most devices there. Anyway, I just sent it back to them today for hopefully a refund, it fit and everything but the ext. hd. didn't power on.

Any ideas?

I'd like to keep the non-working external hd. around for a while until I figure out how to fix it and maybe get my data junk back. But, if I can give a piece of advice to anybody, DON'T rely on an external hard drive because they STOP working eventually. If you have photos or something, BACK THEM UP. I'm not just saying that because I'm sore, I'm saying that because I've read reviews and stuff now. In one review of an IOMEGA or something, it quit working after 13 months! That's prolly not the norm, but I wouldn't rely on one anymore after 2 years or so, they go bad eventually. Actually, I think they said that's the norm that 2 to 3 years is all they last.
Thanks
