A friend's neighbor bid on a box of costume jewelry.....one brooch had an unusual pin on back to fasten. She took it to a jeweler to clean and date-- it looked old. Seems it was made from platinum and studded with diamonds. He didn't feel qualified to appraise but did tell her more than 5 Thousand dollars She paid 5 dollars for the box.
