Garlic and onions

Concord, NH(Zone 5a)

Would like to start some this fall...any recommendations for which bulbs to use in NH? Any tips?

Hi,

Not much experience with them here, and I am in a much warmer zone anyway. Hopefully, someone will chime in.

I live in Connecticut which is much warmer. I have been doing garlic for at least five years. I plant about Columbus Day using the best heads from the previous harvest broken down into cloves. My original heads were an assortment from one of the organic seed companies (I don't remember who.) From the various varieties I planted the first year, I picked the ones I like the best and replanted those and ate the others.

The one time I tried to grow onions I ordered sets in the early spring and put them out. Didn't think the effort and cost of the sets was worth what onions actually cost in the market - I'm also a little lazy. ;)

Hmm - garlic on Columbus Day. Type-casting, stereotyping!!

It is just that it is my exs birthday and he really STINKS!
