Help with my flash drive

I don't understand this new flash drive. On my old one, I simply moved all my older pics from the computer to the drive.
Then I deleted all the old pics from the computer picture files freeing up space on my computer
But on this new one, every time I insert the flash drive, it adds all my latest pics to the drive. I don't want it to
do that. Tonight I tried to delete all my old pics from 2008 thru Dec 2010. When I inserted the flash drive, it deleted these same pics from the flash drive, defeating the whole purpose. What am I dong wrong?
