I have volunteer sunflowers every year, but around July-August they begin to show signs of stem boring bugs, and it makes their flowers not develop properly, sometimes leading to stems bending over, & whether they do that or not, they do die back. Thus they become quite unsightly.
Would it help if I didn't allow them to grow every year, but pulled them all out every other year, instead? Or would that help at all? I don't know which bug it is, as the grubs I find are bright yellow, instead of the white I've seen pictured online.
I cannot use chemicals, so please do not suggest using them.
