I had no idea the hummingbirds loved coleus blooms so much! This year I went on vacation and the coleus bloomed. I normally pinch the blooms off; however, I have seen hummingbirds at them every day since I've been back. I think I'll leave them. They don't look so bad.
Hummingbirds love Coleus Blooms!
They tend to get old looking once they bloom. Since they root so easily from cuttings, you can enjoy both!
They will start to die when you leave flowers to set seed. The plant has done it's 'job' at that time.
I'd get some other bloomers to keep nearby myself.
The birds and bees love my echinacea and bee balm, among others. We're getting a second, smaller bloom from the bee balm which bloomed in late June. Flowers with tubules are especially attractive to hummingbirds, but I don't think I've ever seen one.
