I found this in my yard in a very boggy area where I've been thinning the trees out. It popped up on a site that's had Spruce and Larch on it. The majority of the ground plane is peat moss. It is highly unlikely that this is an exotic plant since it is highly unlikely that anyone has ever cultivated this land before I have.
This leaf is 6" wide.
At first, I thought that it might be Astilboides but that is not native. Darmera came to mind next but that is native to the west coast and I'm almost at the top of New England.
Clue anyone?
Can you ID this?
Reminds me of Mayapple- single stem, short
