I'm getting a lot of lower leaf drop on my coleus, which is outside. When it was inside and happening, I assumed it was due to not enough light. Now I"m getting it on some of the plants outside. Does anyone know what causes this? They are not suffering from lack of water.
Problems with my coleus
Are you sure it's not just the normal course for the plant and that it's just older leaves dying?
If the plant is in good light then the dropping leaves should be replaced by side shoots. If you don't see new buds developing then light level is too low or the plant in 'hungry'.
I am guessing with all your experience the light level is fine.
I use a generic miracle gro or time released fert for mine. Feed lightly once a week for a couple weeks too see.
Long ago and far away, this one will never be seen again>
That's a real shame, Dale. It's beautiful.
I think I might have both of those. I started another 50 cuttings today.
I get leaf drop when the lower leaves get no light.
They also may be over watered. Just what that means here. Add a dab of Hydrogen Peroxide to your water. I foliar feed with a mist.
I also check the main stalk. If it's getting woody I take cuttings and toss the stalk.
