Resurrecting peonies

kitchener, Canada

I moved into an 80 year old house and found a peony stalk when things sprouted in the spring.
I dug up as much of it as I could and now have a sizable plant. My question is will it ever bloom?

Absolutely! It may take a year or two, especially if the roots are damaged. Or it may try to bloom this year (I have two "dugups" that are sprouting, and my peony season is normally the end of May.

So cross your fingers.

Did you need to move it? You probably could have left it where it was. Wonderful to have peonies that old isn't it. As long as there were 'eyes' you will get stalks and it will b loom but if the roots were anything like my old timers I had pieces with just one or two eyes and it will take a while before they will develop blooms. The ones I have ( 60 yrs old) dug two years ago are coming along nicely but only about 12 inches high this year.

Did you clean the roots up or just replant as they came out of the ground?
