Three prong iris

Stratham, NH

We have this glorious iris which resembles a prong like stem of a Bird of Paradise. The flowers are quite small ( 3 - 4" High)
Does anyone know the name of this unusual iris? many thanks for any help,
Susan

It isn't a bearded iris - maybe something like a "walking iris"?

South Hamilton, MA

don't know but a 'walking iris' would not be hardy .

Where did you get it? Try one of the iris online catalogs that has pacific coast, spuria, and other kinds of iris. You've got me curious - I will browse a bit.

These pics don't really show the foliage very well.

Could you get a close up of the flower, please?

Thank you for looking at the close up of this unusual iris. It shows our raindrops too today!

It's beautiful! My guess is some kind of a species iris that often grows at the water's edge.

Iris versicolor.

Thanks so much to everyone .....I'll keep searching and may not find the answer until next Spring when it blooms again! Thanks again!

You don't like my answer, LOL? It's iris versicolor.

Iris versicolor taken at the WKBG this May. Very pretty when the clump has multiple blooms.

iris versicolor comes in all shades of blue to purple, so don't be put off by the color in Mittsy's pic.

We do have a patch of Blue Flag in a boggy area near our summer cottage in Maine...I look for them each June... the ones I have photographed are different than the Versicolor in the bog. But, many many thanks anyway!!

Looking here you'll see the many faces of versicolor. But it's the branching that pretty much indicates versicolor. No question in my mind.

They're lovely, enjoy!

Lovely indeed! Thanks so much for all of your guidance, the votes are in...and Versicolor is the winner by a landslide!! Thank you!
