What is the best fertilizer for the Vegetable Garden

Wauseon, OH(Zone 5a)

I would like to know what is the best fertilizer for the vegetable garden?

Is it 12-12-12, what do you use?

Why I ask is my onions are not growing, so I was thinking that they need fertilizer to help them along.

An if I put fertilizer on them I believe why not the whole garden.

I like the "tone" fertilizers, PlantTone, FlowerTone, etc. I add some nitrogen for leaf veg and tomatoes, and epsom salts. Greensand in the spring every year, and composted manure tilled in with the greensand in the spring.

My understanding is that onions are heavy feeders. They do need some side dressing along the way.

Onions do best when fertilized with ammonium sulphate every 3 weeks. 1 cup will do 20'. Always water afterwards.
