New mouse-what's with all things just right-click????

Can anyone tell me what is going on?????

This has a long and confusing background story....Gonna try to keep it short...
May not even be relevant.....

Two weeks ago--I could not open anything-for days! Called Tech Support.
First person had no clue. Second tech. suggested that the Firefox Wall was not
really necessary--as it may be in conflict with my already existing Norton Anti-Virus.
Also--My WindowsXP also has built in Virus protection.
Had a feeling that my Firefox Wall was somehow to blame...It seemed to be always scanning something.....

Asked a man I work with to come over and see what he can find out--as I was not
able to open anything..not DG, not my e-mail, could not play any CD's in my hard drive--nothing....
Seriously stressing out for a week.....

He came--and tried re-starting my "C" in Safe Mode---and many other "ticks'.
He did, eventually, get to where he could delete the Firefox Fire Wall.
But--he could not understand--why my mouse was not working as it should. It seemed all screwed up!
Right was left--and left was right...and neither way worked as it should.

I had a real el-cheapo mouse--($4) and he told me I need a new mouse.
Went to Best Buy that same day--and bought a new "Dynex" (their brand) USB port $20 mouse.
Plugged it in--and it worked fine for 2 days--as I was used to....Left clicking included!

Then it "turned on me"---Once more--the left-click function seemed to be almost non-existent....
Everything operated just with the right-click---with VERY few exceptions....

Decided that my new mouse must be dysfunctional. Took it back to Best Buy yesterday
and they, very gladly, let me exchange it for a new one. Well! it WAS only one week old!
The "Sweet, young thing" at returns had NO suggestions at all re my issue....

Came home and plugged it in. I was glad I could at least get to anything!
One whole week w/o my Computer and DG had me in total withdrawal....

However---everything that used to be done by Left-click was now only available by right-clicking.
Like--all the every day functions as we work on the computer.
All Left Click now would bring up was the little gray pop-up windows with all kinds of new options.
Only way any of them would go away was with a right click.

Ex:
1--I have an e-mail and I want to delete it. It is junk!
Have to right-click to highlight it. Then--left click to bring up the "options" window
Then right-click on "delete" to get rod of it. Used to be just the opposite!

2--Moving the "elevator" up or down also can only be done with right-clicking.
Same for moving the page left or right on the bottom tool bar.
3--Have to R.C. to place my cursor anywhere in the print/screen. Used to be the L.C. function
4--To copy/paste---R.C. to highlight material. L.C. to have options window come up.
R.C. to choose "copy"....
5--Spell check---L.C. to bring up the options window--AND L.C. to click on the correct spelling...

It just seems everything I was used to how it was done--is now backwards.
I AM slowly getting the "hang" of it--but--WHY is it so??????? WHYYYY????

Can anything be done to make it go back to the way it was?
My fingers always go to what I was used to doing.
LC for everyday functions---RC for specialized functions.....

Please! I am NOT technically savvy. In your helping me--please keep it simple.

Left-clicked to "preview"--and nothing happened.....Must R.C. of course!
Then--right-click on "send" to send it......AGGGHHH!
