aphids on my large maple tree

My large maple tree has aphids. lots of them. My father in law parks his car under the tree and gets sticky drops of ? on his car. I cut some branches off and all the leaves are sticky and aphids were all over them. What suggestions do you have for controlling them? I also have a large tree in the back yard that has the same stickiness. They are too large to force spray them. I have thought of using Bayer rose systemic on the ground. They are driving me nuts. Please help.
