Please tell me HOW to prune, and WHEN to prune azaleas (evergreen), other azaleas, rhododendrons, and lilacs.
A few of the non evergreen azaleas have gotten too tall, as have the lilacs. I don't want to compromise next year's blooms, but these plants need a "haircut"!!!
Thanks,
msmouser
pruning lilacs, azaleas and rhododendrons
I don't know about the others but lilacs should be pruned right after the finish blooming. I remove anything I don't like, including the spent flower heads. I take them off so I don't get seedlings. I try to keep mine small enough so I can reach the whole plant.
