How long do you wait for Irises to bloom?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hello All,

I think I'm going to have the same 3 "duds" again this year as I did last year...Coffee Whispers, Kitty Kay and Pheasant Feathers...all of which I planted in August of 2009 and these never put on bloom stalks. Should I just get new replacement rhyzones this year?
They didn't rot, and are growing leaves wonderfully...just the only 3 that didn't bloom :(

Maybe they will this year? I have had some that didn't bloom the first year, but burst into bloom the next.

If they are buried too deeply, they will not bloom. Also too much nitrogen gives you all green growth but no bloom.

They like neutral to alkaline conditions. Try working some lime in around them. I planted a hydrangea where I thought the soil was acid, but it bloomed pink, alkaline. The irises and daylillies around it love the conditions. Luciee {;^)
