I have noticed that something is eating the blooms of my clems. Does any one know what it is?
What should I do about this? Will Sevin dust work or the spray for my roses?
Holes in Clem blooms?
Slugs..
Earwigs?
Or slugs/snails and earwigs!
There are tons of them this year. Even eating Coriopses.
As soon as it stops raining I will give the plants a spray with Sevin.
Marie, down South, the holes on clem. are made by Japanese beetles. Like clockwork they begin to appear on the middle of May down here. We dug on compost pile while revising our front garden couple of weeks prior. We found one lone JB grub. And yes, the number is sparse (thank goodness), but they're munching on anything and everything even I found them on cannas this morning.
Last year I had a Japanese Iris barely open and found a JB inside.
They are awful here and strip rose bushes in days.
I got the grub stuff to put down, so I guess I will have to do that.
Even if you grub proof your property for 20 years the JB's will fly in from neighboring properties to visit your plants and go through their three week frenzy of eating and sex.
Nothing can stop them from flying in to your plants.
Does those sticky things work or the traps? It will help with the Moles digging tunnels all over though.

I have never used a trap like that but have seen them.
The moles are a sighn you have grubs in the lawn. Thats their favorite food.
Its a toss as to weather you want the tunnels or the grubs. Tunnels can be flattened.
Its voles that are a menace here. I lost many favorite lilies to those monsters.
Japanese Beetle traps do lure them but make sure you read and follow the directions on the package. They have to be placed a distance, downwind, from your garden and that just might be on your neighbor's property.
If you put the traps in your own garden it will attract them from far and wide.
Holykrap.
