Canna Question!

Jacksonville, NC(Zone 8b)

I just received 6 dwarf picasso cannas. Do I need to start the bulbs in a pot untill they peep out of dirt, or could they just be put in the ground ? Thanks to anyone who has any advice about them.

In your area it would be better to just plant them in the ground so you wont have to transplant them. I always worry about disturbing the roots just as they are starting to grow.

Check the leaves for virusing when they emerge, also.

Great point Abutilon, the new ones I picked up this spring are now in the garbage. So sad!!

Just about all the 'Picasso' I have seen in the last years has been virused. Very sad, as Picasso is a gorgeous canna.

I will be very happy if your Picasso are clean :D
It can happen. It has happened for me on varieties I never thought I would see clean again, but they were :)
Especially from isolated growers who have been out of exposure from the virus situation of the last years.

Thanks everyone. It always helps to get other opinions.
