Homemade Compost Bins (F.R.E.E. Plans)

I sell stuff on eBay, so first I went there to look for inexpensive bins, but not cheap there, and I noticed someone selling plans on a CD.

So, being the completely cheap (not frugal, I admit - I'm cheap - admitting you have a problem is the first step of that recovery, eh?) person that I am, I googled 'free compost bin plans and came across these two sites:

I already know that I need more than one composter for next season. :)

I have been using this one for about a year now and it really works well. Just layer your browns and greens, water well, and u will have 150 degree compost in a couple of days. Hint: leaves and coffee grounds work really well. Also add any food scraps, be sure and bury these down under.

Our City sold composters few years ago for $50.00 and DH bought one but critters keep getting into it. I converted it to fern garden.

I now have 2 home made large trash cans with lids that works well for me and also my daughter who copied my idea.

Make big holes at the bottom of the trash barrel and bury it 10 to 12 inches .The earthworms loves it!!! Make it stable with something so it does not topple.

I empty my composters every 3-4 months and use compost in the garden as well as potted plants.

55 gallon plastic drums keep it simple and last many years.
Oak leaves digest in a few months in the summer heat and humidity.
Although the product will be acidic.

I'm taking those containers and sawing them in half to use as planters for my bamboo (clumpers) plants. They are wonderful.
