What scat is that?

Fayette, IA(Zone 4b)

We've become very familiar with deer scat in our yard, but not with this. I'm guessing raccoon, but would like a more educated opinion. (Hope I'm not offending anyone.)

The neighbour's cats leave something similar on our lawn every day :-((

Skunk, and Raccoons leaves me gift like that here.
Resin, cats usually bury their excrement. I doubt a cat would have done that.

Thanks for your input on this output. Size is difficult to gauge in a picture like this without any scale, but I've never seen cat litter this large. Based on a Google image search, I'm still inclined to think raccoon. (Maybe I just don't want it to be skunk!)

Not when they think they own your garden - then they leave it out as a territorial warning to other cats. And definitely the neighbour's cats, frequently see them in the process of depositing it . . . yukk!

Jyl. ROTFL!! That's why we are all here!

I guess raccoon too. I have the same black mess in my yard.

All the outdoor cats around here leave their's uncovered. They aren't my cats either, and I too see them from the window. Plus their's is often on the runny side. At least now I know why they don't cover it.

We moved into cat heaven without knowing it - 2 of the neighbours has 3 cats each and 2 others 1 each - we sit in the middle and seem to be the meeting point - try and garden with that!!

Resin, that's worse!!

Little, that is a dilema!

I was gifted with two more raccoon plops. One with corn, so he came from the elevator across the street :o) This is the second time and it's in almost the same place as the first. He's got a road going thru my yard, LOL!

If it's black and tarry...my guess would be Fox.

So whose was it?

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

ROTFL!!

I'm wondering too. We have a full spring and wanderers ahead of us :o)

Too dark and smooth to be cat...
Not enough fur and seeds to be raccoon...
Got groundhogs there?
Small dog?

Victoria, Canada(Zone 8b)

Depends on the size.... it looks like it has hair in it... so it is a meat eater. I have seen cougar scat that looks like that... don't know if you have coyotes, but it is a lot like cougar scat only smaller. Raccoon is just slightly larger than a domestic cats.
Hope some of this helps. I am not familiar with all of the wildlife in Fl.
