Tree Peony growth

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

I have new growth low on one of my tree peonies. Some of the growth appears to resemble what has leafed out on the plant, but some appears to look more like an herbaceous peony. Probably from the graft? And should I remove that growth?

Most tree peonies are grafted onto a herbaceous root stock. For this reason when a tree peony is planted it is usually planted about four inches deeper than it was in the container. This usually prevents shoots from the rootstock from growing. When you can be sure that is what you have, yes you should remove them. Al
